Akalanki Wijemanne
One of the choir’s newest recruits, Akalanki was part of the Soul Sounds Academy Choir since 2012 before she joined Soul Sounds in 2014. She started singing with the Holy Family Convent Primary choir in 2005 and later joined the Senior Choir from 2008 to 2014 under the direction of Miss Rapti Fernando. Akalanki has participated in many school choir productions and all island Inter-School Western Music competitions. She has also completed her Speech and Drama Grade 8 at Trinity College of London and Grade 8 Theory and Practical at IWMS and Grade 5 practical and grade 6 theory London college of music.
Akalanki was a member of the schools netball team and was also a colours-woman. She completed her A/L examinations in 2014, and is now reading for a LLB degree at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and a diploma in Human Resource Management at the Institute of Personnel Management. “As a young child I’ve always had a passion for music and have dreamed of being a part of Soul Sounds and now Soul Sounds has become my second family. I am extremely grateful to Aunty Soundarie for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime, to be a part of this amazing choir.”
