Shyara Bastians

Shyara Bastians

Shyara has been singing and performing since the age of 10, when she joined the Merry Anne Singers and later the senior choir of Holy Family Convent, Colombo 04. Her love for drama and theatre inspired her to continue singing over the years, and even venture into theatre. Joining the Workshop Players in 2013 in their production ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ ticked that box off her bucket list. She has also excelled in the field of public speaking; her most recent achievement being adjudged the second runner-up in the all island Best Speakers contest, organized by the Colombo Toastmasters Club in 2012.

An undergraduate in Psychology, Shyara is currently reading for her Masters in Development Studies with the University of Colombo and works for an international development organization. She holds a master’s degree in development studies from the University of Colombo and currently works for the United Nations Development Programme in Sri Lanka.

“Music and theatre are my two great sources of escapism. It’s more than just performing. It’s therapy that vacuums out the monotony from the mundane. The chance to entertain others and spread joy through music is truly a blessing. And to do it with a bunch of exceptionally talented and hardworking girls, makes the journey all the more worthwhile”.
