About The Soul Sounds Music Academy
The Soul Sounds Academy, where all it takes is a passion to perform music at its best, was set up by its Music Director, Soundarie David Rodrigo, one of Sri Lanka’s well known musicians and also founder of Sri Lanka’s premiere female ensemble Soul Sounds in 2000. The Academy was set up with the objective of giving talented young children the opportunity to excel in music, with opportunities to perform both locally and internationally. Classes are conducted by its Director, as well as qualified and experienced teachers in voice, piano, violin, guitar, special needs as well as theory of music and Musical Theatre.

The Academy believes in a performance oriented approach to music, where the child is given guidance and training in performing, and thereby further enhancing personality growth, with attention to confidence boosting, music appreciation, time management, and team work. Following the success of Soul Sounds, the first choral group in the country to venture internationally and be placed at a International Competition in Wales 10 years ago, the Academy encourages young students to appreciate all genres of music, whilst learning the basics in Classical Music.
Choral Singing & instrumental classes in Sri Lanka
Choral singing, one of the most popular classes at the Academy, has classes for all ages, from as young as 4 to 25. The Soul Sounds Academy Choir, the junior body of the award winning Soul Sounds, Sri Lanka’s premiere female ensemble, brought glory to the country, when they were awarded with two Gold Diplomas at the Asia Pacific Choir Games in Indonesia in 2013. Other one on one and group classes include classes for the piano, violin, theory, musical theatre, guitar, as well as Music Therapy for Children with Special Needs.
Guitar classes in Sri Lanka
Learn the Guitar under some of our most versatile tutors at the Soul Sounds Academy. Basic Guitar courses, as well as specialized courses on Lead, and Bass guitar are taught at the Soul Sounds Academy. We also encourage students of all ages to learn to play the guitar, as well as sing and perform. Open Guitar Days are held regularly at the Soul Sounds Academy, where they also get an opportunity to interact with singers from the Soul Sounds Academy Choir.
Musical Theatre Classes in Sri Lanka
Students who enroll for this class will be coached not merely to sing, but to sing, dance and act. Classes are held for Musical Theatre at the Soul Sounds Academy, every Tuesdays, and students will be coached for Performance oriented exams, conducted by the Trinity College of Music London. Training for Examinations and Performances – local and International
At the Soul Sounds Academy we not only send young children for examinations, but whenever possible we make sure opportunities are given to perform. Whether its the annual concert or competing at the Asia Pacific Choir Games, the World Choir Games or other opportunities where talent is nurtured and performance is encouraged from a very early stage in life. The Academy has also in collaboration with the University of Adelaide and Gateway Graduate School introduced a new degree program in Business and Music – A First in Sri Lanka.
